Nature Notes: For the Beauty

Thought I'd do something a little different. Though it's been a long time since I attended a church made of bricks and boards, I often find myself quietly singing this old hymn in the cathedral of the woods. Do you know it?

Crabtree8

For the Beauty of the Earth

For the beauty of the earth
For the glory of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies,
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise.

For the beauty of each hour,
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale and tree and flower,
Sun and moon and stars of light,
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise.

For the joy of ear and eye,
For the heart and mind’s delight,
For the mystic harmony
Linking sense to sound and sight,
Lord of all, to Thee we raise,
This our hymn of grateful praise.

I love it! I'm not familiar with it, though. I grew up with hymns - or so I thought. Apparently I grew up with Southern Gospel and nobody told me. I still love it all to this day and wish we sang more of it in church.

That's a beautiful shot of the flowers with rain drops and also a beautiful hymn.

I don't know that one, but my only experience with hymns would be any that were sung in a Catholic mass in the 1960's and I think most were latin... It does have beautiful words though....Michelle
