Not much new this time around, but I spotted three patches of these little pretties in the woods and thought I share them. ** Update August 23 - Just to be clear, these first ones are NOT edible. Just pretty. **
This second photo was taken last year. These are Chicken of the Woods, definitely edible. I chickened out last year, but if I find any this time around I'll give them a go.
Also definitely edible: Our gnarly little apple tree actually produced apples this year, following a severe pruning by the hubby. They're almost ripe...
And in case you're wondering, the groundhogs have not returned. In fact, I haven't seen any at all in ages. I kinda miss them. But since they seem to be gone, I'm planning to pot up some nice, big chrysanthemums for the deck. I may get to enjoy some flowers out there for a change!

If fungus can be considered pretty...then yours are gorgeous. And the apples, to me, look just the right ripeness. I always have like them on the 'green' shade. More tart.
last weekend when we took a walk in the park i looked to see if last year's tree ears had recurred they hadnt .. i found that interesting ... these are great photos

I used to have an apple tree. I miss it. I love the mushroom shots. I'm too scared to gather them wild.

Such vivid photography of the mushrooms. The apples look delicious. Don't you have any squirrels up there who love destroying them? That happens to our pears.
Anni, my husband keeps picking them green and discarding them after one bite. If he keeps it up, they'll be gone before they're ready!
Daryl, I haven't seen any this year either. You'd think they'd come back in the same place, but apparently not. Eileen, I'll let you know if any do pop up!

Carver, Morels and chicken of the woods don't look like anything else that's poisonous. Those are the only two I'd dare eat.
Michelle, Hmmmm indeed. The babies did not find their way back, but I don't know what happened to their mom.
KL, we do have squirrels, but they haven't bothered the apples. Yet.

Wow! That second shot is really interesting!!! Love the layers...can't say that I've ever seen these!!! At least not in person!
