Nature Notes: Winter

Snow has come, deadly deep and still.
Deer, driven by hunger, are eating the bushes beneath my windows.
Huddled by the fire, I sense them there in the darkness, just beyond the glass, watching.
I do not turn to meet their longing gaze, but I feel their icy breath whispering on the back of my neck.

Or perhaps it is just the wind.

Lovely shot. Wonderful how the deer is staring at you, and the other at his mate.

Thanks, everyone. It sounds like the deer in y'all's necks of the woods are having a tough time too right now. I know I should be upset with them for munching on the landscaping, but I don't have the heart to blame the poor things.

It seems so unfair and harsh that creatures suffer so in the winter. If I were queen, nothing and no one would ever go hungry.

Very nice indeed. Both the photo and the verse cause thought and reflection. Great job.
